The checklist below will tell you if your project qualifies as Indie<\/em><\/strong> under our license terms. If your project doesn’t qualify as Indie, it can only use the Studio license.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Please note that the information below is provided as an overview for convenience, and does not overrule the actual license terms.<\/sub><\/em> Definitions<\/span>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Creators<\/mark><\/strong> Neutral Entities<\/mark><\/strong> Checklist<\/span>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n 1. How many Creators does the project have?<\/strong> 2. Are all Creators human?<\/strong> 3. Do all Creators hold ownership rights to the project?<\/strong> 4. Will all Creators be paid in proportion to the project’s revenue (if the project generates revenue)?<\/strong> 5. Besides Creators and Neutral Entities, will any other entity: work on, distribute, monetize, market, finance, or otherwise be involved with the project?<\/strong> If all<\/span> your answers are marked ‘Indie<\/strong><\/mark>‘, your project is eligible for the Free Indie<\/strong>, Starter Indie<\/strong> or Pro Indie<\/strong> licenses.
If any information conflicts with the license terms, the license terms take precedence.<\/sub><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the purpose of the checklist below, a Creator<\/strong><\/em> is any entity who holds ownership rights<\/span> to the project, and\/or earns money<\/span> based on the project’s revenue.
\u2022 This often includes publishers.
\u2022 Neutral Entities (see adjacent) are not<\/span> considered Creators.*
*This is a good thing: it means Neutral Entities involved with your project don’t disqualify it from being Indie!<\/em><\/sub><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
Neutral Entities are entities whose involvement is strictly limited to the following roles:
\u2022 Distribution platforms<\/strong> (GOG, Steam, etc.)<\/em>
\u2022 Payment processors<\/strong> (credit cards, banks, etc.)<\/em>
\u2022 Commissioned parties<\/strong> (freelance artists, etc.)<\/em>
\u2022 Services and products<\/strong> (legal advice, server hosting services, ready-made assets, software licenses, etc.)<\/em>
\u2022 Content creators<\/strong> (streamers, youtubers, etc.)<\/em>
\u2022 End-users<\/strong> (people playing your game or using your software)<\/em>

For Indie projects, all Creators must be human, not companies.<\/em>

\u2022 Some Creators are organizations\/companies \u2192 Not Indie<\/mark>*<\/strong>
*Our licenses provide exemptions for Indies who register as a legal entity for legal reasons. This is not addressed on this page. See “Indie Organizations” in our license terms for details.<\/em><\/sub><\/p>\n\n\n\n
For Indie projects, all Creators must share ownership of the project.<\/em>

For Indie projects, all Creators must be entitled to a share of the revenue.<\/em>
\u2022 Every Creator will be paid based on the project’s revenue \u2192 Indie<\/strong><\/mark>
\u2022 Some Creators will not be paid at all \/ will only be paid a fixed amount \/ will have a pay limit \/ another arrangement not proportional to the project’s revenue \u2192 Not Indie<\/strong><\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n
This definition can include employees, volunteers, interns, etc.<\/em>
\u2022 Everyone involved is either a Creator or a Neutral Entity \u2192 Indie<\/strong><\/mark>
\u2022 Some entities who are not Creators or Neutral Entities will be involved with the project \u2192 Not Indie<\/strong><\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n
If any<\/span> of your answers are marked ‘Not Indie<\/strong><\/mark>‘, your project is only eligible for the Studio License<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
