Background Effects
Background Effects are animations played on top of what a layer shows: a camera shake, a flash, a fade, a slow zoom, a color tint... They're played with the BG_Effect commands, which behave like the other BG commands, but on effects instead of the layer's file. A layer can play several effects at once, and they don't interrupt what the layer itself is playing. VN busts play effects too, in the same way (see Busts). Making Effects An effect is an Animation, created in Godot's animation editor. Its tracks can change any property of the layer (position, scale, rotation, modulate...) or of the nodes inside it. Save your effects in AnimationLibrary files (.tres or .res), in Candy_DE/Media/General/Backgrounds/Animation_Libraries. Every layer of every Background Scene shares that folder, so one library can serve them all. The libraries in that folder are 'safe', the one that ships there included: updates never overwrite them. A Line names the library and the animation to play. It can also name an animation one of the layer's own AnimationPlayers already contains, with no library at all. Animation paths An effect's tracks are relative to the AnimationPlayer's root_node, which is the layer itself by default. A track on .:modulate therefore changes the layer's color, on any layer. Build your animations on that principle: an effect created for one layer plays on every layer whose nodes match its tracks. Clearing an effect When an effect is stopped and cleared (the default of BG_Effect_Stop), a RESET animation plays, to restore the layer: the one in the effect's library, else the AnimationPlayer's own, if either exists. Add a RESET animation to each library, which restores every property its effects change to its normal value. AnimationPlayers Each effect plays on an AnimationPlayer child of its layer. None has to be added: when a layer has no free AnimationPlayer, the Background Scene creates one. A layer playing three effects at once uses three AnimationPlayers. Add an AnimationPlayer to a layer yourself only to provide animations of its own, or a different root_node. A free AnimationPlayer you added is used before a new one is created. Effect Commands
CommandPurpose
BG_Effect_PlayPlay effects on layers.
BG_Effect_WaitWait for effects.
BG_Effect_PausePause effects.
BG_Effect_ResumeResume paused effects.
BG_Effect_SkipMove effects to another point.
BG_Effect_StopStop effects.
Effects play, loop, wait, pause (with pause loops) and skip the way layers do: see Animated Layers. An effect always starts from its beginning.
