Creating Dialogues
Dialogues are written in Candy Dialogue Creator. Its UI is modular and can be laid out differently, but the default layout is made of four panels:
  1. The Dialogue Navigator, on the left, lists the entire Dialogue. Conversations, Blocks and Lines are reordered in it, and a Line is selected in it for editing.
  2. The Buttons panels, at the bottom, add a Conversation, a Block or a Line in one click.
  3. The Dialogue Editor, in the center, is where a Command is configured by filling in its data fields.
  4. The Inserts panel, on the right, inserts text into any data field in one click: BBCode tags, or inserts of your own. Its drop-downs insert your project's Text Event markers and Lexicon keywords into spoken text.
What the Creator provides over writing a Dialogue file by hand:
  • Only values are typed, never syntax.
  • Many data fields offer a drop-down list of values instead of a text field.
  • These drop-down lists can be filled from your Godot project's files and scripts, so that they list the Actor References, portraits, media files or scenes of your game.
  • Portrait, voice and other media files of your project are previewed in the UI.
  • Several features shorten the writing of Variations and translations.
  • Presets: Lines or groups of Lines inserted in one click, optionally with pre-filled data.
  • A Dialogue is tested in your project in one click while it's being written.
  • A finished Dialogue is exported to your Godot project, with options to merge its new data into an existing Dialogue file.
