Candy Dialogue Engine is installed through the Candy Wizard plugin.
Requirements: Godot 4.7 or newer. The Wizard refuses to install Candy Dialogue Engine in an older version of Godot.
Short instructions:
1. Back up your Godot project!
2. Download the latest version of the Candy Wizard from the Godot Asset Store or from GitHub. Add it to your project and enable it.
3. The Wizard adds a "Candy Dialogue" tab to the bottom panel. Open it, click "Install Candy Dialogue Engine", choose the download from GitHub, and proceed.
4. Once the installation is finished, read Next Steps.
Detailed instructions:
1. Back up your Godot project!
2. Download the latest version of the Candy Wizard from the Godot Asset Store or from GitHub.
3. Place the Wizard in your project's addons folder. If the folder doesn't exist, create it.
4. In the Godot Editor, open Project > Project Settings > Plugins.
5. Enable the Candy Wizard.
6. Close the Project Settings and restart the Godot Editor, as a precaution.
7. A new tab, "Candy Dialogue", is added to the bottom panel. Open it.
8. This is the Candy Wizard. It reports that Candy Dialogue Engine isn't installed. Click the "Install Candy Dialogue Engine" button.
9. The installation wizard opens. It offers to download and install the latest release from GitHub, or to install a release from a ZIP file. With an internet connection, choose the download from GitHub, then click "Next".
10. The Wizard offers to back up your project. This backup is optional after the one of step 1, but a second backup is a sound precaution: save it in a different location.
11. The Wizard asks how voice files are organized in your project's folders. If unsure, accept the default: the setting can be changed later.
12. The Wizard then summarizes the installation, as configured by the options chosen so far. At this point, nothing is installed and the project isn't backed up yet. Click "Install" to proceed, or "Back" to change an option.
13. A progress bar is displayed briefly, while Godot updates the project's files. Godot prints a number of errors during this step: they are expected.
14. Restart the Godot Editor: the errors are gone, and the Wizard reports that Candy Dialogue Engine is installed.
15. Candy Dialogue Engine is ready. Read Next Steps before writing Dialogues.
Note: The Godot Editor may print this error when it loads a scene containing a speech bubble or a bark bubble: Path to node is invalid: 'SubViewport'. (or 'BarkBubble/SubViewport' for a bark scene).
It's caused by the Godot editor loading the speech/bark bubbles ViewportTextures before Subviewports.
Everything works correctly: you can ignore it. |
