Actors
An Actor is any entity that speaks or acts in a Dialogue. Actors are usually characters, but an animal, an object (a clock whose ticking is written in the dialogue box) or an off-screen, nameless narrator is an Actor too. Actors Dictionary Actors are registered in the actors dictionary, in the Actors.gd script. It's a 'safe' file: updates never overwrite it. Each top-level key is an Actor Reference: the name a Dialogue uses to designate that Actor, for example as the speaker of a Line. Actor Properties An Actor's entry in the actors dictionary contains its properties, which the Engine and Dialogues read for different purposes. For example, the DisplayName property is the name displayed on screen when the Actor speaks, and other properties override Engine and UI settings for the Lines the Actor speaks, such as the color of their text. Media Folders By default, the media files of Actors are sorted by Actor. This shortens the writing of Lines: when Alice is the speaker of a Line whose portrait is happy.png, the Engine searches for that file in Alice's portrait folder.
