Mods
A mod is a folder of files that extend Candy Dialogue Creator. Candy Dialogue Creator loads mods when it starts: nothing is registered or enabled. The Mods Folder Mods are placed in the Mods folder of Candy Dialogue Creator's user folder (see Installation). Create it if it doesn't exist. Each mod is a folder of its own, with a name of your choice. Inside, one folder per kind of addition:
Mods/ My_Game/ Line_Schemas/ line schemas (.txt) Dropdowns/ dropdown scripts (.gd) Field_Checks/ field check scripts (.gd) Themes/ themes (.txt, .tres) Theme_Options/ theme options (.txt) Translations/ translations (.po, .mo) Fonts/ fonts (.ttf, .otf, .woff, .woff2)
A mod contains only the folders it uses. Write the folder names exactly as above.

Loading Mods are loaded when Candy Dialogue Creator starts: restart it after adding or modifying a file. Themes are the exception: Reload, in Settings > Theme, reloads them. Mods are loaded after what ships with Candy Dialogue Creator, so a mod can replace a built-in:
  • A line schema with the type of a built-in Command replaces that Command's schema.
  • A dropdown or field check script with the file name of a built-in one replaces it.
  • A theme with the file name of a built-in one replaces it.
A mod is shared by all users and profiles on the computer. Sharing a Mod Send the mod's folder. The other person places it in their own Mods folder and restarts Candy Dialogue Creator. A team typically shares one mod per game: the schemas of its own Commands, a dropdown or two that read its data, and its theme. A Word of Caution Dropdown and field check scripts are code: Candy Dialogue Creator runs them. Only install mods from people you trust, as you would any program. Line schemas, themes, theme options, translations and fonts are data, and run nothing. A Mod That Isn't Loaded
  • Check the names of the folders, and that the file is in the right one.
  • Check the file's extension: .txt for schemas, themes and options, .gd for scripts.
  • A file Candy Dialogue Creator can't parse is skipped. The files are written as GDScript dictionaries, not JSON: a missing comma or bracket renders a file unparsable (see Data Files).
  • Restart Candy Dialogue Creator.
