Field Messages
Candy Dialogue Creator checks the values you enter as you enter them. What it finds is displayed as a short message right of the field's name. Messages are advice: they never stop you from saving, exporting or testing.
Field Message
Three Kinds
KindMeaning
ErrorThe value is incorrect: the game can't read it as it is. For example, "Not a whole number."
WarningThe value is correct, but probably not what you meant. For example, a Wait of 0 seconds: "Waits for nothing."
NoticeA reminder of what a correct value does, where it could be read two ways.
Errors and warnings each have a color of their own, Errors and Warnings in the Theme settings (see Theme). Placement
  • Beside a field's name, for that field's value.
  • Beside the title of a list, for the list as a whole: a Choice List with no categories, a Spoken Line with no text.
  • Beside the name of an entry of a list, for that name: a media player that doesn't exist in the project.
  • In a Speech Editor, beside the name of the Variation, for its text: a text variable that isn't closed.
What Is Checked The value itself Numbers, times, colors, on/off values, and values that must be one of a fixed set. The Dialogue Conversations, Blocks and Line Marks that a Line points at, and the If, Elif and Else commands that must follow each other. Your project Actors, Roles, Flags, files, scenes and Dialogue Modes. These checks only report when Candy Dialogue Creator knows the project: until the project is set up and its data loaded, nothing is reported as missing. If a file added to the project a moment ago is reported as missing, press Refresh in the top bar. If an Actor or a Flag is, update the data in Settings > Project > Data. What Isn't Checked
  • A value that is an expression: it's only known when the game runs the Line.
  • An override left at null.
  • A hidden field.
A Line with no message isn't guaranteed to behave as intended: test it (see Testing).
