Structure
A Dialogue is divided into Conversations, which are divided into Blocks, which contain Lines. Each Line is one Command: it instructs Candy Dialogue Engine to perform one action, such as having an Actor speak, playing a sound or jumping to another Block.
Dialogue Conversation Block Line Line Block Line Conversation ...
The division of a Dialogue is free. A common one is one Conversation per scene or per character, and one Block per branch of it. What the division means to the game is explained in the Candy Dialogue Engine documentation, under Dialogues > Dialogue Structure. Conversations and Blocks
  • Two Conversations can't have the same name, and neither can two Blocks of the same Conversation.
  • A new Conversation starts with one empty Block.
  • The names USER PRESETS and PROFILE PRESETS are reserved for the preset Conversations (see Presets).
The names suggested for new Conversations and Blocks are set in Settings > General > General (see General). Other Lines refer to Conversations and Blocks by name: a Jump jumps to a Conversation and a Block. After renaming one, check the Lines that refer to it: a field that names a Conversation or Block that doesn't exist displays a message beside its name. Lines Lines run in order, from the top of their Block. They are numbered from 0, and the number is displayed before each Line in the Dialogue Navigator. A Line's number changes when Lines are added or moved above it. To reference a Line in a way that survives edits, add a Line Mark (LM) and refer to its Reference instead of a number. The Commands are sorted in categories:

Each Command is described in the Candy Dialogue Engine documentation, under Commands. In Candy Dialogue Creator, the ? beside each field explains what the field does and which values it accepts. Lines Inside Lines The Condition commands (If, Elif, Else, For, While) run another Command when their condition is met. That Command is part of the Condition's Line: it has no row of its own in the Navigator, and is edited inside the Condition's form. See Conditions. What Isn't Part of the Dialogue
  • Presets are stored in two Conversations of their own, outside the Dialogue. They are never saved in a save file or exported.
  • Settings and layouts belong to the profile, not to the Dialogue.
