Troubleshooting
Answers to the most frequent questions. The Interface I can't find a Panel's or a widget's settings. Right-click inside it and choose Options. Panels have no settings buttons of their own. My layout is a mess. Window > Reset Layout restores the built-in layout. To reset only the form of one Command, turn on the Dialogue Editor's Edit Layout and press Reset Layout in the bar under the tabs. A field I need isn't in the form. In this order, check that:
  • No filter is hiding it: check the toggles above the form (see Filters).
  • It isn't on another tab.
  • It isn't hidden because, with another field's current value, Candy Dialogue Engine ignores it (see Fields).
  • It wasn't left out of the form: right-click the form and choose Fields... (see Fields widget).
The headers and frames won't go away. Turn off Window > Edit Layout, and the Edit Layout button of the Dialogue Editor. The Navigator's shortcuts don't work. Click the Navigator's list first: they work while it has the focus. The Dialogue Buttons add Lines in the wrong place. They act on the Navigator clicked last. With several Navigators, the dot at the left of a Navigator's toolbar is full in that one. The Project The dropdowns are empty.
  • Set the Project root in Settings > Project > Paths.
  • Press Update all in Settings > Project > Data.
See Project Setup. A file I just added isn't listed, or is reported as missing. Press Refresh in the top bar. A new Actor or Flag isn't listed, or is reported as missing. Press Update all in Settings > Project > Data. The Portrait and Voice dropdowns list every Actor's files. Fill in the Speaker first: the dropdowns then list that Actor's files. For a Role or an expression, the Actor isn't known, so every folder is offered. Expressions are reported as errors. The symbols in Settings > Project > Symbols don't match your project's: press Update from scripts there. The portrait or the voice doesn't preview. The widget reports the cause. See Portrait Preview and Voice Preview. Files A file won't load: it "uses the 1.1 dialogue format". Convert it with Edit > Dialogue Converter... (see Converting 1.1 Files). Candy Dialogue Creator asks to update a file's symbols. The file was written with other symbols than the profile's, or the profile's symbols changed since it opened. Update them: Candy Dialogue Creator can't continue without the update. See Updating Symbols. Presets are missing after the profile opened. Their file was written with other symbols, and the update was cancelled. Open the profile again, or update the file with Edit > Symbol Updater.... A "Broken Variation Names" report opened. Some Variation names in the file don't follow the naming rules. If the file loaded, they were repaired, and saving writes the repairs. If it didn't, the names listed first must be corrected in the file with a text editor (see Variations). Save asks for a file name every time. The Dialogue has no current save: it's new, or was loaded from an auto save, a quick save or a file outside the manual saves folder. Save it once with a name, in the manual saves folder (see Saving and Loading). I closed without saving. Load the most recent file of the profile's Auto_Saves folder with File > Load Dialogue.... My Presets are gone. A preset file that can't be read, or whose Variation names can't be repaired, isn't loaded, and is never overwritten. Correct the file, then open the profile again (see Data Files). My game doesn't find the exported Dialogue once it's exported from Godot. Add *.txt to the filters of the Resources tab of Godot's Export window. Testing Test says the Godot editor didn't answer. Open your project in the Godot editor, and enable Candy Wizard in its plugins. See Testing. The test starts in the wrong place. Open the menu of the arrow button left of Test, and check its four fields. Or use Test Here on a row of the Navigator. Customization My mod doesn't show. Check the names of its folders and the extensions of its files, then restart Candy Dialogue Creator (see Mods). My theme isn't listed. Press Reload in Settings > Theme. A theme file that can't be read is skipped: check its braces, quotes and commas.
