Installation
Candy Dialogue Creator is a standalone application for Windows, Linux and macOS. It runs without Godot, and it isn't installed inside your game's project: it only reads that project's folders and writes Dialogue files into it. Requirements
  • A Godot project with Candy Dialogue Engine 1.2 installed, to run the Dialogues you write. Dialogues can be written without one, but the dropdowns that list your project's files remain empty.
  • Candy Wizard, the Candy Dialogue Engine plugin for the Godot editor, to test Dialogues in one click (see Testing).
Running the Application Start the Candy Dialogue Creator executable. No other setup is required: the first screen is where a user and a project profile are created (see Users and Profiles). Running from the Godot Project Candy Dialogue Creator is also available as a Godot project, for developers who want to customize it or build it into a game as a modding tool. Open the project in Godot 4.6 and run it. It behaves the same as the application. File Locations Candy Dialogue Creator stores everything it saves in its user folder:
SystemUser folder
Windows%APPDATA%\Godot\app_userdata\Candy Dialogue Creator 1.2
Linux~/.local/share/godot/app_userdata/Candy Dialogue Creator 1.2
macOS~/Library/Application Support/Godot/app_userdata/Candy Dialogue Creator 1.2
It contains:
Folder or fileContents
UsersEvery user, with their project profiles, settings, saves, presets, inserts and saved layouts.
ThemesYour own themes.
ModsYour own Commands, dropdowns, field checks, themes and theme options.
DocumentationThe documentation displayed in the Documentation window.
News.txtThe news displayed on the first screen.
The exact contents of these folders are listed in Data Files. To back up your work, copy the Users folder. To move to another computer, copy the whole user folder to the same place there. Dialogue files are the exception: an exported Dialogue is written into your Godot project (see Exporting). Upgrading from Candy Dialogue Creator 1.1 Candy Dialogue Creator 1.2 opens profiles made with 1.1 as they are: copy your 1.1 Users folder into the 1.2 user folder. Settings that are new in 1.2 receive their default value. Dialogues, saves and presets made with 1.1 must be converted before 1.2 can load them. See Converting 1.1 Files.
