Dialogue Editor
The Dialogue Editor edits one Line: the one clicked last in the Dialogue Navigator. Until a Line is selected, it displays "Select a line in the Dialogue Navigator." Its content depends on the Line's Command. Each Command has its own line layout: one or more tabs, each divided into areas that contain widgets. Most Commands only need a list of fields. A Spoken Line has many more widgets: a text editor, a portrait preview, a voice player, counters. This page describes the panel itself. For the editing itself, see Editing Lines. For each widget, see Widgets.
Spoken Line Write Tab
From Top to Bottom The Title Row The name of the Command, followed by the Line's position: its Conversation, its Block and its number. For a Command inside a Condition, the path continues to that Command. On the right, Edit Layout switches the Editor to its own Edit Layout mode, to rearrange the Command's line layout. See Line Layouts. The Tabs The tabs of the Command's line layout. A simple Command has a Line tab for its fields and a Notes tab for its Meta Notes. A Spoken Line has Write, Randoms, Translate, TTS, Overrides, Events and Notes (see Spoken Lines). The open tab is remembered for each Command, so every Spoken Line opens on the tab the previous one was left on. The + after the tabs adds a tab. Right-clicking a tab renames it, sets its minimum height or removes it, and dragging a tab moves it. See Line Layouts. Ctrl+PageUp and Ctrl+PageDown switch to the previous and next tab. The Filter Bar Under the tabs, a row of toggles that display or hide parts of the tab: a widget, some fields, a category of fields. Filters..., at the end of the row, creates and edits them, and dragging a toggle moves it along the row. Each tab has its own filters. See Filters. The Areas The rest of the panel is the tab's content: its areas and their widgets. Drag the dividers between areas to resize them. Under the widgets, the bottom dragger sets how far down they reach (see Line Layouts). When the panel is too small for the tab, the whole tab scrolls. The Right-Click Menu Right-clicking inside a widget opens that widget's menu:
ItemWhat it does
OptionsThe widget's settings.
Fields...For a Fields widget: which fields it displays, in what order, and over how many columns.
ScrollWhether the widget scrolls inside its area. Off, the area grows to fit, and the whole tab scrolls.
In the Editor's Edit Layout mode, the menu also splits and closes areas and saves layouts. The panel's own Options contain its reference and the minimum and maximum size of its Area. They are in the Area's menu: right-click the panel's title row, or use the Area's + menu in the window's Edit Layout mode. Layouts per Editor The line layouts belong to the Dialogue Editor panel they were created in. Two Dialogue Editors can display the same Command in two different ways: one arranged for writing, another for translating. Because they are part of the panel, they are saved with it in window layouts, Area layouts and panel layouts. Loading someone's window layout loads their line layouts with it. Several Editors
  • Editors with the same reference display the same Line. Placed in different windows, or on different tabs of the Line, they display more of it at once.
  • An Editor with another reference displays the Line selected in the Navigators with that reference, so two Lines can be edited side by side.
